This morning the Fort Point Security Officers who were scheduled to work returned to their jobs at the tourism village. It’s a welcome relief after a two day standoff in which a total of sixty four security officers, employees of Fort Point Security Services, signed a petition to get management to pay them their full salaries which they did not receive on April fifteenth.
For two days the employees stood outside of the company’s main office with that demand and the standoff eventually forced the Labour Department to get involved. Yesterday afternoon, acting Deputy Labour Commissioner Hertha Gentle and the company’s temporary Assistant Manager Carmen Zetina met to come up with a resolution.
Following the meeting Gentle told 7NEWS that the law dictates that once you have worked you must be paid and that it is obvious that the new policy the company implemented is not working. Gentle says all efforts will be made to ensure that the security officers are not fired due to the action taken and that they will receive their full salary.
We don’t know when the security officers should expect the money, but this evening Gentle told 7NEWS that by Monday her office should have completed their investigation and that the results will be forwarded to the company in a letter.
