This week the plain-spoken, hard-talking John Campos led the sixty odd security guards at the Tourism Village in their fight to get their full salary – and today he was fired. This evening Campos received a letter dated today and signed by the security company’s temporary assistant manager Carmen Zetina – informing him simply that his services are no longer needed. It shocked Campos and the first stop he made was to our studios. A short while ago Campos – who has worked at the tourism village for 2 years – told us that he was fired because he spoke out.

Keith Swift,
Why do you think you were fired?

John Campos, Fired
“Because Keith I fought for my rights and everybody else’s rights at the Tourism Village. This is the problem. I called my uncle right away and he told me that I did the best thing, I fought for my rights, and there is no where Mr. Carmen Zetina can fire me for that.”

Keith Swift,
Did you expect this?

John Campos,
“I did not expect this because the Labor Department and Jacklyn Willoughby already said we can report back to work as normal and they can’t fire you for your rights.”

Keith Swift,
But you have been fired.

John Campos,
“Yes but now this is bull crap. I have been at Fort Point for two years. I know my rights and I know what I am capable of doing. Come on, out here is hard and then right now the price of goods are going up. Money doesn’t grow on trees. We have families to feed, and then rent, mortgage, and everything right now is going up. And if he wants to fire me Keith, where is my check.”

Because Campos came to our studios literally minutes before the news, we were unable to reach Carmen Zetina for comment. We do note that as he stated – when the workers returned to their posts on Thursday – the security company explicitly agreed not to terminate any of the workers. We’ll have more on this developing story on Monday.
