The prices for chicken and eggs have gone up sharply. As of today, the wholesale price for a pound of chicken is now $2.44. That is an increase of 26 cents from $2.18, about a 12% hike. But that’s only the wholesale price, at the grocery store you can expect to pay as much as $2.75 per pound.

The news is no better for eggs. The wholesale price of 30 dozen eggs has increased by $8; from $81 to $89. When we checked at stores today, the price of a dozen eggs jumped 50 cents – from $2.99 to $3.49.

In a press release issued on Saturday, the Poultry Association says the increase are the results of consultations and negotiations with government. And while consumers are crying from the crushing increases, according to the Association, the increases are nothing when you consider that the prices for some of their inputs have doubled or tripled.
