Two nights ago we told you that the implementation date for the new butane regulations had arrived which requires all suppliers to have scales at their depots and on all delivery vehicles. As we showed you, it didn't happen and yesterday the Bureau of standards sent out a release explaining. They say that the scales specified in the regulations are not available locally and so the Bureau has extended the effective date to March 25th, 2011 - which, again, is tomorrow.

So, all suppliers of LPG have had a total of 34 days to comply. Up to yesterday, the Bureau had received two applications for the approval of scales being acquired.

But don't expect to see them tomorrow, because although the scales are being imported they will first have to be verified by the Bureau before they can be introduced for general trade.

A release adds that The Bureau has taken the decision to extend the date of compliance on a case by case basis for all the suppliers that submit an application for approval by March 25th, 2011 only. If applications are not received by the that date, extensions will not be granted and LPG suppliers will be expected to comply with the law by this date or be subject to the penalties.
