It's the world's most coveted and costly crustacean, and in Belize, revenue from lobster sales feeds hundreds of fisherfolk, and thousands in the service industry. This year, though, not so much due to lockdown in the US. The year started off with low lobster prices for fishers, but as the season comes to a close, it's selling for about 27 dollars a pound on the international market - which is a favourable price.

And, we hope you got your full of it, because as of midnight on Sunday, the lobster season will be closed, and it will remain that way until midnight of June 14th, 2021.

The Department is also urging fisher folks to remove their lobster traps from fishing grounds during the closed fishing season. They will be actively enforcing the removal of traps from the country's water during this period.

The Department is asking the general public to report any illegal fishing activities by calling them at 224-4552.
