You don't need a statistician or an economist to tell you that inflation "di kill" right now. Whether it's at the grocery store, the restaurant, or the gas pump, Belizeans know that their dollar is worth far less than two years ago.

Today, the Statistical Institute of Belize presented the latest figures on inflation which reinforced that increased prices for food and non alcoholic beverages are the greatest drivers of inflation:

Melvin Perez, Statistician II

"With our main emphasis being the first 2 months of the year 2023 we can see how prices have increase from January to February. This increase was mainly contributed to higher restaurant services and food prices. First we had the food and non-alcoholic beverages category with prices increasing by 14.9%. Now, I want to mention that this category had the major contribution on the overall inflation contributing more than 50%. We can see that majority of the items had an increase by more than 10%, specifically flour, egg, vegetable oil, watermelon, tomatoes, onion, Irish potato, sweet pepper, soy sauce and coconut milk."
