And Belize won't only have poultry it may also have Ostrich meat, that's if aspiring Ostrich breeder, Nancy Marin has anything to say about it.

We asked the Minister of Agriculture about that brand-new industry this afternoon and he seemed ready to support it but said that CITES regulations have to be complied with.

Here's more:

Jose Mai, Minister of Agriculture
"I have no problem with somebody wanting to import ostrich if they meet and they comply with the regulations. If it's CITES, if it's not, if it's an animal health issue, they comply with it, I have no problem, I will go and enjoy the ostrich too but once they meet and comply with the regulations that they ought to."

"There are countries that are growing it that domesticated it, in Yucatan I've seen farms of it, other parts of it they consider it livestock, it may be livestock but it will still be CITES, so your country has to regulate based on, we're signatories to CITES International so we have to ensure that these birds that come into the country meet our regulations, and once they meet the regulations, then there's no problem."

Belize's first official Ostrich breeder Nancy Marin has installed incubators for her Ostrich eggs and has even served her first Ostrich steak dinner to a limited group.
