We already told you about tourism's contribution to the strong economic growth - well a new metric calculates its contribution to the economy in 2019 at 11.8% of GDP. Here are the details.

"So for the year 2019 we have a direct share in tourism industries gross value added at 343. 1 million. The direct share in other industries 142. 2 million direct share in taxes less subsidies 73. 6 million which brings us to our total tourism direct gross domestic product at $558.9 million. Of the total GDP this represents 11.8%. So overall tourism's direct contribution to the economy for the year 2019 was 11.8%."

Within the Caribbean region, St. Lucia reported the highest contribution of tourism to the overall economy of 34 percent IN 2016.
