Two police officers from San Pedro are tonight accused of beating up a man so badly he came within inches of death. 31-year-old Denfield Williams is under neurological observation at the KHMH after he was allegedly beaten up by a Police Constable and a Tourism Unit Officer sometime on Tuesday on the island. He was rushed by air ambulance to the KHMH and was unconscious up until this morning.
The Police Department says its investigating but with the alleged victim comatose there's not much that investigating to do.
His mother Veronica Williams, who hadn't seen her son in three years, has been holding a bedside vigil. Though happy at his slow improvement, she told Keith Swift she is angry at who did this to her son and demands justice.
Veronica Williams, Mother of Beating Victim
"If dah the police they beat ah up. I wah justice because I noh feel like its right. They coulda mi kill ah like this."
A CAT scan shows now sign of brain injury though he remains under neurological observation. As for the police, they say investigations continue. And add that Williams has had numerous run-ins with the law. Most recently in December he was detained on a bench warrant for money owed to a court. Two days later his employer paid the fine. Police say that was the last time they had contact with Williams.
