When the story emerged in September of 2002, it was one of the more outrageous attacks we'd reported on when it was alleged that Rudolph Smith broke into a teenage girl's room and held a knife to her throat as he raped her.
Well this afternoon it took a jury 2 hours and 35 minutes to convict the 28 year old for rape and burglary. The charges are from an incident early on the morning of September 30th, 2002 when Smith broke into a house, entered the teenage girl's room and placed a knife to her throat as he raped her. The twist on the story is that the 28-year-old Smith was friendly with the victim's stepfather whom he referred to as 'family.' Smith will be sentenced by Supreme Court Justice Adolph Lucas on Friday. He could face up to life in prison on the rape conviction.
