Found with $180,000, Charged with Money Laundering

Three persons today appeared in Magistrate's Court on the quite uncommon charge of money laundering.

Yesterday at an unspecified location in Belize City a police patrol intercepted a Mercedes Benz. They searched inside and found $180,000 Belize dollars in cash. All three occupants of the car were arrested and charged for money laundering. They are 43 year old William Johnson, 41 year old Caryl Meighan, and 31 year old Joseph Garbutt. All three pleaded not guilty and were granted bail of $20,000 each.

Police cannot specify the proceeds of the money but if money laundering is proven, they stand to lose all $180,000.
