Two days ago 36 year old Dangriga resident John Lambey made headlines on radio, TV, and newspapers when he fended off an armed group of home invaders with a machete eventually overpowering Clayton White and chopping him up while white’s accomplices ran off. Well tonight, Lambey is back in the news and this time police say he’s the bad guy.

As we reported two days ago, White went all the way from “Lake-I” in Belize City to Oak Street in Dangriga equipped even to take hostages just to steal some drugs that Lambey and his associates had reportedly come into. At the time, Lambey denied any knowledge of what White and his crew were looking for. But police knew that if a rough and ready crew of men from Belize City were looking for drugs they had to be unto something. So yesterday at 5:30 am the police anti drug unit with canine backup descended on Lambey’s Oak Street residence.

A full search of the house turned up empty but then the dogs were brought in and they converged on one spot in the yard. That’s where police started to dig and three feet down, they found 1.4 kilos, just about 3 pounds of cocaine. They arrested Lambey and 5 other people who were in the house. All 6 were held overnight for processing and taken to court today where 29 year old Clifton Flores pleaded guilty to drug trafficking on the provision that the charges against the others were dropped. He was fined $10,000 and sentenced to three years in jail. But he won’t be going to Hattieville yet, as he gave a verbal notice of appeal and received bail of 10 thousand dollars. According to our sources, Flores fears the prison, because he believes powerful players in the drug trade would have him killed there.
