After a long string of failures, the Department of Public Prosecutions through Prosecutor Carlo Mason today finally got a conviction as 41 year old man was today found guilty of carnal knowledge.
Gilbert Alvarez appeared before Justice Troadio Gonzalez originally to answer to charges of incest but the prosecution was unable to prove that the child, a 9-year-old girl, was his daughter. Even so however the jury found Alvarez guilty of carnal knowledge for which Gonzalez sentenced him to 14 years and 3 years for grievous harm. The sentences are to run concurrently, meaning that he'll serve a total of 14 years.
The conviction came following reports made in June of last year. Speaking with us today his wife and the child's mother told us, through tears, that her husband didn't do it, and now that he is in jail, she has nowhere to live. Her daughter, who made the complaint, lives with another relative.
