He was a police officer publicly defamed, accused of physically abusing men, hauling them to jail and cursing out women in a drunken spree in Dangriga, but tonight it looks like vindication of sorts for Superintendent of Police Ewart Itza as the Director of Public Prosecutions himself, Kirk Anderson, conceded that there was no case to answer on the charges of false imprisonment of Timoteo Cano and Lincoln Cardinez. A charge of indecent words against Maria Gonzalez was also dismissed. Four other charges, including 2 counts of threats of death and 2 counts of insulting words against Cano and Cardinez were also dismissed.

While he's cleared of those charges the DPP is continuing with others that include 1 count of aggravated assault and 1 count of harm visited against Lincoln Cardinez. In an unsworn statement from the dock Itza told the court that a group of people had been picked up by police on August 24 of 2004 for immigration purposes. He said that he took Timoteo Cano into an office for an interview and Cano attacked him, forcing him to defend himself as Cano tried to reach for the weapon on his waist. After the statement the case was adjourned until October 6th.
