Last night we showed you the woman who was knocked down by the Executive Director of the National AIDS Commission. While last night we brought you that side of the story tonight Martha Carillo explains that while she did knock down Sharon Jones it was an accident caused by reckless driving of an as yet unidentified individual.
Martha Carillo, Deflecting Blame in Accident
“I was heading home with some passengers in my vehicle, we all had on our seatbelts and everything, and immediately coming by Rose Garden there were a lot vehicles parked on both sides of the street and there was a lot of people and a vehicle suddenly swerved out of the parking lot into my lane. I am thinking this person had on the high beam because the light was so bright and it was immediately in front of me and to avoid a collision with this vehicle I found myself having to swerve and this point I realized there were people there but I tried my best to avoid hitting anybody but the impact from that vehicle to mine caused me to go off the road and hit this person. It was an accident that happened because somebody hit me and as a result I could not avoid hitting this unfortunate person that was standing on the side of the highway. The person that hit me is still out there. This person has not been detained or anything of the sort. It’s so unfortunate that she had to be you know a victim of what happened to me...”
This afternoon Carillo appeared in Magistrate's Court to answer to charges of grievous harm and driving without due care and attention. She was offered and met bail in the sum of $750. The case was adjourned until November 2.
