A Belize City man is tonight out of a weekend in police custody and he claims that policemen brutalised him. Darren Young says that police picked him up on Saturday night on the police's investigation of some stolen guns and other properties. He says that the weekend was torturous as he endured numerous beatings over the weekend, all for nothing.
Darren Young, Alleges Police Brutality
“They took me upstairs of the police station and they beat me up bad. They took those big plastic bags and put it over my head and stifled me. If I didn’t bite the plastic when it was every my head I would have not been able to breathe because I was already stifling and I bit it to get air. A whole bin back they took and pushed down my throat. They beat me up, kick me up, and burst my head two times. I have two wounds in my head right now. I went to the doctor for an x-ray and they say one of my finger is broken and another is fractured. They even took my hair, the deadlocks that I have, and wrapped it around my neck and choked me. They beat me until I was crying up there. They beat me bad bad bad.”
Young says he's made complaints to the internal affairs department of the police in the hope of getting redress.
