And while police are investigating Gillett's murder, his common law wife, Marleni Avilez today visited our newsroom saying that her Dean Gillett's murder came as a complete surprise. While Gillett is known to have had many run?ins with the law, she never could have expected his death at the hands of people who he once called friends.

“It was unbelievable to me because I haven’t heard him complain and say anything about him having problem with anyone. I usually go for lunch at 11:30 and when I was calling his phone he did not answer. I saw him earlier in the morning, well we live together, and usally brings me to work, drop off my daughter, then he takes me to work for 8 o’clock.”
“I still can’t believe it but it’s the truth and I have to try and deal it.”
Q: “Where he was killed, do you know the people where he was?”
“He’s had good relationship with them and after a while they fell out and they didn’t talk and that was it, we haven’t heard from them or see them until now. So I’m familiar with them I know the whole family and I’m familiar with the guy they said shot him.”
“I just basically want to say that regardless if they had a fear for him or I don’t know what transpired at their house he had no reason to take his life, it’s not his child. I just what justice to come out of it and leave it in the hands of the good lord. That’s basically it, I just wan’t justice. I can never think this could happen because regardless of what they have said about Dean I don’t know Dean to be that kind of person to harm anyone. I cannot say that on my behalf. From the time I have known him I’ve never heard of him kill anyone, harming anyone or anything related to that sort.”
“He had other children, he has me and he has another family and we find it real hard to deal with it right now {crying}… my daughter doesn’t even know what’s going on she is just like mom where is dad what is happening and I don’t know what to tell her.”
Gillett was the father of 7 children? 6 of them with his legal wife. They range in ages from 3 years to 16 years.
