We may have gotten used to the young men called "shottaz" lurking t night and waking up to hear the news of the nightly death toll, but recently we've seen a spate of daytime crime in the city. And that's just what happened, this morning when a man was shot in a van, dumped and left for dead. 7news has been following the story and Alfonso Noble tells us what happened:

Alfonso Noble Reporting

Sometime between 10:30 and 11 this morning a gunshot was heard inside a van that was traveling on Central American Boulevard. Seconds later a young man jumped out of the passenger side of the moving green van and ran down Banak street. The van then sped off into the Western Highway where it turned off into this cut-off to dump mechanic, Ernesto Granados, on the side of the road, leaving him there and speeding off into the Collet area. Granados was taken to the KHMH where he is being treated for a gunshot wound to the left side of the neck.

Dr. Fernando Cuellar – Chief of Medical Staff KHMH
"All I can say is that he is in a very critical state and he'll undergo surgery in just a little while from here."

Alfonso Noble
"How critical is he right now?"

Dr. Fernando Cuellar
"Very, as critical as they come."

While Granados recovers at the KHMH, police are looking into the incident trying to track down the green van that reportedly has taxi license plates.

Ernesto Granados is in critical condition as the bullet tore through his neck bones, lodging itself in his spine. We were unable to ascertain why anyone one would shoot him as family members would not speak to us this morning.
