They open later than anyone else and because of that, Chinese operated grocery stores have long been a target of criminals in Belize city. But it's not only the city; tonight police are reporting that a gang of bandits last night preyed upon a Chinese grocery in Bullett Tree village in western Belize. At 7:30 last night, 5 armed men rolled into Max's store in the center of the village and held up the proprietor, and customers who were in the store. Guo Lian Wu, who was behind the counter said they put the gun to his head, and took 1,300 dollars in cash and then went on to strip the jewelry off about 6 customers who were inside. And as if that wasn't enough, they then took off with a blue sedan belonging to one of his customers. Police later found the car about 3 miles away. As it typically the case in this area, investigators suspect that the criminals may have come from across the border in Guatemala, just a few miles away.
