Last night we showed you the picture of a dog that had been recovered by police from thieves so daring that they would steal a man's best friend. Police say that dog theft is a common crime and recovery is rare, especially for pups of high pedigree. That's why we were at the Queen Street police station this morning as the man and his dog were reunited:
Alfonso Noble Reporting
He looked like a little pup in this picture on last night's newscast, but it turns out that this 8 month old rottweiler, named Grizzly, is a robust dog and he does have an owner. They were reunited this morning when Hugh Hulse visited the police station this morning to claim him. Hulse says his dog was stolen over a week ago and it was only because of the newscast that he managed to find his dog.
Hugh Hulse – Dog owner
"I lost him about the 4th of this month and last night we saw him on the news and that's why I came to the station to look for him. I'm happy because it's cost me a lot of money as a puppy."
Alfonso Noble
"So you have a lot of love for this dog."
Hugh Hulse
"Yeah"
Alfonso Noble
"Are you glad that it was on the news?"
Hugh Hulse
"Of course, most naturally because without that I would not even know that police has him."
And now that he has him the first thing Grizzly was treated to was a can of Purina dog food complete with a pack of sliced bread which he eagerly devoured. And while grisly is happy that he's being fed and taken care of, from the way he looked earlier on it seemed that he was rather unhappy. Hulse says that the men who had him may have been mistreating him since they were forcibly dragging him when he was found.
Hugh Hulse
"According to the police two men were dragging him and they realized that he was not reacting to them and so they checked on it."
And while he was recovered this time, Hulse says that it's not the first time Grizzly has been stolen by dog-gone thieves
Hugh Hulse
"It's not the first time that they have stolen him. The first time we recovered him in Sand Hill."
And now again, he's been recovered, making it clear that this dog must be this man's best friend indeed.
Police have since detained two men pending charges.
