Police say it might have been one wild roving gunman responsible for a string of shootings last night on the city's South side, three of them on Kraal Road. It started just before 7 when shots were fired into Elvis Bevans's snack shop. No one was hit, but just 5 minutes later, a bullet would find its mark in the left thigh of 21 year old Anthony Parks who was riding his bicycle on Kraal Road. Then, at around 8:30, 21 year old Hassan Valerio was riding his bicycle on Euphrates Avenue when he was shot in the left arm. The fourth shooting occurred again on Kraal road where 24 year old Sicily Trapp told police that her home was shot up. Officer in charge of the Crimes Investigation Branch, Santiago Ciau says that one individual may be responsible:
Inspector Santiago Ciau – Officer Commanding CIB Belize City
"Based on what we have it is the same person who was on bicycle was to and fro withing King street and Kraal Road. Investigations revealed that he was armed with two short arms. If you look a the south side of Belize city there is always a problem within the George street, Tigris street, King street areas and persons from Kraal road. So there might be beef between these people and that is why this is happening."
"I have placed personnel from my branch to do patrols in that specific area especially King street and the Kraal road, Euphrates avenue area."
Ciau adds that they will be stepping up their patrols in the area especially in the coming weekend to prevent a recurrence.
