A 17 year old accused of murder appeared in family court today where he was able to walk out a free man.
Because he is a minor, Shane Bennett appeared before Magistrate Albertha Perez in the Family Court where the office of the DPP withdrew a charge of murder against the young man. The DPP's office was unable to establish a prima facie case against Bennett.
The young man was accused of the May 9th murder of well-known conch fritters vendor Robert Flowers who was killed as he made his way home from Central American Boulevard through an alley behind the Port Loyola Library. At the time an assailant had an altercation with Flowers and shot him in the abdomen. The dispute was allegedly over a fake $100 note.
