In August he was shot by police after he attacked an on duty officer with a rock in front of the Queen Street station.
Today Norman Bernard had his day in court and pleaded guilty to aggravated assault. The charges date back to August 8th when Bernard was attempting to sleep in the back of a pickup truck when a police constable told him he couldn’t. That didn’t sit too well with Bernard who flew into a rage and picked up a brick to stone the cop. Bernard was shot and taken to the hospital. He was later charged. Today in court he pleaded guilty and was fined $500. $250 was to be paid upfront and the balance by the end of December. In court his sister asked Presiding Magistrate Sharon Fraser to remand Bernard because he had nowhere to go. Fraser denied the request however Bernard was sent to jail for 5 months anyway because he couldn’t pay the fine.
