With the lead prosecution witness in his first trial infamously gunned down after testifying, accused murderer George Mathews beat the rap again and walked down the steps of the Supreme Court a free man this afternoon.

Mathews was accused and last year convicted of murdering Denvor Hamilton on Central American Boulevard on April 7th of 2002. However the Appeals Court later overturned the verdict and ordered a new trial. Mathews' new trial came to an end this afternoon when it was sent to the jury for deliberation. After two hours, the jury returned a verdict of not guilty and Justice Adolph Lucas told Mathews he was free to go. Though the deceased Budd wasn't able to testify in the new trial, his sworn statement was still admitted into evidence.

Budd was murdered in November of last year and Brenton Lewis is now charged for his murder. Mathews was defended in his new trial by Hubert Elrington.
