Police Constable Maurice Martinez is still missing tonight, and it is feared he might be dead. Today police received a credible lead when they detained a suspect who told them he could lead them to the body of constable Maurice Martinez. But when investigators got to the scene, there was no trace of any body. With that investigators are back to square one, but after corroborating the suspect's story with Martinez's female companion, they suspect an even greater likelihood that the constable was killed. Investigators tell us that at this point it appears to be just a random act of violence that has been known to occur in that area.
Last week Wednesday, December 22, the policeman was seen leaving an Orange Walk bar with his female companion. The young lady yesterday told police that later that night, they were attacked and assaulted on the Pueblo Nuevo ferry road in the Corozal District. Since then, police officers have recovered his vehicle which was found abandoned in Corozal, anyone who can assist in locating officer Maurice Martinez is asked to call 911 or 922 or the nearest police station.
