Cayo police now confirm that Santa Elena resident Yesenia Vasquez was raped and then strangled to death near her home Saturday afternoon. The results of a post mortem yesterday certified the cause of death as asphyxia due to strangulation. As we reported last night 21 year old Yesenia had just picked up $125 which was her pay for a week's work as a domestic when she was attacked about 250 yards from her home and dragged into the bushes. Neighbors heard groans and a short while later her family discovered her partially nude body, still warm. Cayo police tonight still have a suspect detained however charges, if any, are still pending.
