The Rio Frio Caves in the Mountain Pine Ridge, they are among Belize's most precious sites to behold, but yesterday was not time for 'beholding,' it was a ruthless armed hold-up instead. What are believed to be armed Guatemalan bandits held up a Belizean family and a group of tourists.

On Sunday, 27-year-old Cyrus Mira told police that at around 2:30 on that day he was parked near the Rio Frio cave along with family members when they were approached by a group of 4 men. One of them was armed with an automatic rifle, another had a handgun while the two others had machetes. Mira says the men robbed them of cash and jewelry.

As the robbery was taking place, a group of tourists arrived and they too were robbed by the four bandits. Police believe that the men originated from Guatemala and have informed the Guatemalan authorities who have promised cooperation.
