A Mennonite farmer was killed in a collision on Friday afternoon and tonight police say the man who was driving him is responsible.

Around 4 pm on Friday the victim 40-year-old Heinrick Guenther Jr. was traveling in the bed of the pickup which was northbound on the Guinea Grass Road to Orange Walk. Police say the pickup collided with a car traveling in the opposite direction. The impact flung Guenther out of the pickup and he was pronounced dead on arrival at the Orange Walk Hospital.

Police today charged the pickup's driver 36-year-old Erin Hernandez Alquesay with manslaughter, causing death by careless conduct, and driving without due care and attention. Two other persons involved in the accident were treated and released from the hospital.
