Police at the Northern Highway checkpoint at the Burrell boom cut off shot a man yesterday evening. Sometime around 5 yesterday, police personnel at the checkpoint were asked for assistance by the driver and conductor of a bus that was traveling towards Orange Walk. The men complained that one of the passengers was being disorderly and asked Police to take him off the bus. But when police tried to do so, the man punched one of the officers in the face. When they tried to further restrain the passenger three of his companions began to advance on the police man who then pulled his service revolver and fired a single shot that hit the main aggressor identified as 22 year old Daniel Flores in the left leg. He was taken to the KHMH where he remains under police guard pending charges of assault, disorderly conduct and drug trafficking. The last charge arose because police say that Flores was carrying small package of marijuana weighing 10 grams.
