He is a Customs Officer accused of kidnapping, robbing, and holding his ex-girlfriend captive. It sounds sensational but this afternoon 35-year-old Anthony Gabourel walked free from all those charges. Gabourel was arraigned yesterday in Magistrate's Court on charges of robbery, kidnapping, and conspiracy to commit robbery while a waitress friend of his, 19 year old Kimberly Brown, was charged with conspiracy to commit kidnapping. But it seems that as they were being arraigned the DPP was withdrawing charges. He gave instructions to withdraw charges yesterday and today both walked free. A third accomplice Eldon Bevans never made it to court and is still on the run.
Gabourel and company were charged for kidnapping 19-year-old waitress Emily Rhaburn on Monday night. Rhaburn said she was walking along Cemetery Road with her new boyfriend when a red double cab pickup drove beside them and Gabourel, who is her ex-boyfriend, got out of the truck. She says Gabourel grabbed her and forced her into the pickup while Bevans took her purse. Rhaburn says Gabourel drove them to a house on Jane Usher Boulevard where she was locked in a room. She claims Bevans slapped her and took her Nokia brand cell phone.
It sounds like a complaint citing extreme lawlessness but there's no indication why the DPP withdrew the charges.
