On Tuesday we told you about the Martinez brothers, Morris and Wayne, who were charged for brutally stabbing to death 35 year old mechanic Reno Castillo on Saturday night. It was a particularly heinous act because both police and eyewitnesses said that Castillo was murdered simply because he failed to hand over his hat and glasses to the Martinez brothers.
But according to the Martinez family that is not what happened on Newtown Barracks. Rodrick Martinez is their older brother and today he brought a collection of their hats to show that they had no reason to steal a hat since they have a closet full of them home. Rodrick says that rather than a robbery turned murder, it was a fight which got ugly. He says his brothers are both employed and they don't have criminal records.
Rodrick Martinez, Brother of Accused Killers
"Anyone who knows my brothers knows that they won't rob anyone or they won't murder anyone. My brothers they didn't rob or murder anyone and the police are accusing them of murder. My brothers aren't that. They don't rob or murder

people because they have a whole heap of hat. They have a whole heap of hat and this what I am showing you is nothing compared to what they have. They won't go rob and everyone knows that. In my heart I sympathize with the deceased's family. On behalf of my whole family I sympathize with them but something went wrong because my brother has a large wound on his head. They hit him in his head and there is a big bust on his head."
Keith Swift,
Do you know if your brothers were involved in the death of this gentleman?
Rodrick Martinez,
"Well they were involved in a fight. This thing started with a fight. My brother told me they fought with him but they didn't tell that they stabbed him or nothing like that. My brothers aren't murderers or robbers."
The brothers are due back in court on November 11th.
