She is accused of burglarizing and then burning down her neighbor's house and today Elena Kerr had her day in court. The Sandhill resident was formally arraigned today in magistrate's court on a charge of handling stolen goods. The price tag on the goods is $5,627 and police say they all came from the home of Kerr's neighbor Judith Jones Muschamp.

On Friday morning, Muschamp's home in Maxboro was burglarized and then one of the sofas was set on fire. Muschamp says she found some of her missing possessions in Kerr's house. Police say they haven't gathered enough evidence yet to charge Kerr with arson or burglary but they hope the handing stolen goods charge will stick. Kerr was offered bail of $2,500 plus one surety in the same amount. She met that bail and she is due back in court on December 30th.

We note that Kerr's boyfriend was detained by police but he has not been charged. And what about possible arson or burglary charges? Well, a police release says more charges are possible "if evidence becomes available."
