A 23-year-old father made a fatal 14 foot dive to his death last night and his family says it was a tragic accident in a drunken stupor, not (suicide. Gale Edwards says her son Clinton returned home around 11:30 last night after a night of drinking a cocktail of vodka and orange juice with a friend next door. She told us that one minute he was offering her piece of a burger and the next he was leaping off the front verandah of their George Street Home. She spoke to us but wished to be off camera.

Gale Edwards, Mother
"He came with a burger and he said, 'mom I want you to have a piece of this burger.' I told him no. He said he wanted me to taste it so I took two of the fries and I tasted it. He said he wanted me to bite it and I said I wasn't hungry. But I took piece of the chicken and I ate it and then he continued to eat the balance of it. While he was eating it I saw his face going down in the food so I asked why he drank until he reached this condition. He didn't answer and he looked he was about to lie down in the chair and then I told him he can't sleep in the chair and to go to his bed. He got up to go to his bed but he didn't walk, he started to crawl on his hands and his knees. And my son asked him why is he putting mommy through this. He didn't say anything, he just turned and watched him (the other son) and he got right up and came towards my room and I told him that's not your room. So he came to the front door, left my room door, and went to the front door and I just saw him jumped like hw was going to swim or something right over the railing."

Keith Swift,
Any reason why he did this?

Gale Edwards,
"Because of the alcohol he drank. I never saw him crawl like that before."

Clinton Edwards died on the operating table at the KHMH. Police say they do not suspect foul play.
