It's been established as one of the most dangerous stretches of road on the Northern Highway, and early this morning, the Mameyal Curve at mile 68 proved its treachery. Around 2:15 am, a southbound cane truck collided head on with a towhead carrying a 48-foot trailer. 51-year-old Caledonia villager Jose Hernandez Zetina was driving his cane truck to the BSI factory. Visibility was limited because the road was covered by a dense layer of fog and as he rounded the blind curve, Zetina crashed into the two-head driven by 31 year old David Pott also from Caledonia.
The impact was massive and both vehicles were extensively damaged, but remarkably, both drivers escaped without serious injury. Police have not brought charges yet as they continue to investigate to see which driver veered form his lane.
