He is a police officer who lost his gun during a one-night stand and blamed it on the girl but today the accused Maria Itzab was exonerated in Magistrate's Court. The case dates back to July 22nd of last year when Police Constable Jacinto Baltazar lost his Police Department issued firearm. He retraced his steps which took him back to a night of partying which ended at the home of Maria Itzab. Constable Baltazar apparently didn't realize he lost his gun until he left Itzab's house and reported to duty the next morning. Itzab was later arrested and charged with theft.
On the strength of a confession from Itzab the case went to trial today in front of Magistrate Harrison Hewlett. In that caution statement, which she claims she was elicited by force, Itzab said that she saw Baltazar's gun drop and picked it up. She further said that she was going to give it back to him but before she could, someone else took it from her. But her confession didn't get very far because in it she didn't name Jacinto Baltazar.
The nail in the coffin of the police's case was when Itzab's attorney Michael Peyrefitte argued that the police couldn't prove theft because they couldn't establish ownership of the gun. Magistrate Hewlett dismissed the case.
