A semi-pro football player is dead and Corozal police say he was murdered by a trigger-happy immigration officer. The victim is 27-year-old Calcutta villager Jamid Amin Manzanero and his accused killer is 27-year-old immigration officer Gilbert Blair. Both men were inside Malibu Disco in Corozal town on Saturday night when Blair was reportedly involved in an argument with one of the footballer's friends.

Manzanero's friend was kicked out of the club but things came to a head at closing time. That is when police say Blair pulled out his licensed gun from his vehicle and allegedly starting firing wildly in the parking lot. Eyewitnesses say Manzanero attempted to run but he was caught and shot multiple times to the head and abdomen. Blair allegedly added insult to injury when he kicked a dying manzanero as he lay bleeding on the ground.

Blair was yesterday formally charged with murder. Jamid Manzanero played defense as a part of the Calcutta Bulls in last year's semi-pro season.
