The Ombudsman says the Ministry of Education should not have forced Edward P. Yorke High School to reinstate an expelled student. We told you about Karl Tulcey earlier this year when he was expelled from E.P. Yorke and then returned to the classroom by order of Chief Education Officer Maude Hyde. Back then the Ministry said Tulcey belonged in the classroom because the circumstances behind his expulsion were questionable but more importantly the 18-year-old fourth form student was months away from his high school graduation.
The Ombudsman Paul Rodriquez personally started an investigation and in a letter to CEO Hyde last month, Rodriquez said Tulcey needed some tough love and more good would have been served if Tulcey was kept outside the classroom. Rodriguez says Tulcey would have learnt his lesson if he was forced to attend night school. With all that said, the Ombudsman says he has closed the file on Tulcey.
Despite the uproar over his continued enrollment, he continues to attend E.P. Yorke.
