The family of a San Pedro deejay murdered in Melchor on Tuesday night says the 21 year old was lured to her death. As we reported last night reef radio personality Leslie Maldonado's body was found in Melchor on Wednesday morning. The discovery was made in an area of Melchor known as Barrio Suchitan, which is about five miles from the Benque border. She was found on a street side around 6 am on Wednesday morning. Leslie was shot in her chest and her abdomen. They believe she was dumped there because her clothes were not damaged and there was no blood at the spot where the discovery was made. It was also apparent that Leslie had sexual relations just prior to her death. Her family believes that was consensual.
So what was Leslie doing in Melchor? Her older sister Carol, who went to Melchor to claim the body, says that Leslie went there to buy a car. Last week she borrowed $7,000 from a close family member to make the purchase. She first told them she needed the 7 grand to pay some bills. But on Tuesday morning, which is the last time she spoke to her family, he revealed that she had or was just about to cross over the Melchor border to buy a Toyota Camry.
Leslie had a close female friend in Guatemala who reportedly told her about the supposedly cheap car. It is a tall tale but regrettably, it's the only story her family has to go on. Her body has been returned to Belize and is in San Pedro tonight. Leslie Maldonado was the mother of two children. Belize police are reportedly trying to work with their Guatemalan counterparts on the investigation.
