37-year-old Guatemalan national Andres Juarez couldn't speak much English when he went to court today but the accused sex offender is in jail tonight, just the same. On Thursday, a 16-year-old Guatemalan girl reported to Belize City police that she was at Juarez's house at mile four on the Northern Highway when he started to fondle her and then slapped her when she resisted his advances.
He was charged with aggravated assault and in court today he initially said that he will plead guilty to the charge, but wanted to give an explanation. When Magistrate Margaret Mackenzie heard that, a plea of not guilty was entered instead. Still he was remanded into custody for one month.
