A woman was killed in a boat collision in the Placencia Lagoon on Sunday afternoon. 34-year-old Martin Aguilar, who manages the Belize Aquaculture Limited Shrimp farm, was captaining the "The Estrellitas" along with five other passengers on a fishing trip. It was while out on that journey at about 2:00 pm, when they were inside a channel called "Narrows" that Aguilar's "Estrellitas" collided into a another boat traveling in the opposite direction. The captain of that boat was 38-year-old licensed tour operator Hank Leon Rhamdas. One of his passengers 56 year old Josefa Gomez received a large cut wound to her head and later died. Rhamdas was detained but he was released this afternoon. Investigations do continue. Residents of the area tell us that the "Narrows" is infamously known as a blind spot.
