The man in charge of seeing those charges through in Cayo will now be Sr. Superintendent David Henderson - the new officer in charge of the country's second largest policing area. And yes, you did hear right, that is Senior Superintendent, David Henderson.
He is one of 21 policemen who were promoted last week. He joins James Magdaleno who has also been promoted to Senior Superintendent. Among those taking up the ranks of Superintendent are former ASP's Edward Broaster, Chester Williams, Louise Willis and Russell Blackett. Speaking to his newly promoted officers in a special session today, COMPOL Westby told them it isn't just about more stripes and more pay, it's about more work and greater responsibility.
Gerald Westby, Commissioner of Police
"We have this meeting here this morning to inform the officers, the newly promoted, along with the senior leadership that with promotion we expect improved service to the community out there. Promotion is not for you to sit back, it is for us to work even harder and that is the message we want to get here today."
David Henderson, Promoted to Senior Supt.
"It is motivation and you know that once you work hard, you have to expect to move forward, and again it will take more commitment and more responsibility."
Russell Blackett, Promoted to Supt.
"Well Jules it has been a long time coming. Again I must thank the senior leadership, the Commissioner of Police, for finally promoting me to this rank. All said and done, the promotion does not come only as a satisfying but it depicts over the years hard work and dedication to the department and to the people of Belize.
Once you reach training school, your vision must be to become the Commissioner of Police one day. All said and done, if you set your hat that high, it is good."
Going along with the promotions are a number of transfers including long time ADU Boss Joseph Myvett who now take over in Corozal and long time Eastern Division Special Branch boss Bartholomew Jones, who takes over the ADU.
