It was a trick with no treats for a trio of robbers who targeted National Transportation's head office on Monday morning. Around three am the thieves, all wearing Halloween masks, and at least one armed with a sawed off shot gun, jumped into National's Magazine Road compound and held up the security guard. The men ransacked the place and broke through doors and padlocks, in search of what could have been as much as ten to fourteen thousand dollars. But they didn't leave with much because there was no money there. National Transport's Phillip Jones told us why.
Phillip Jones, National Transport
"According to the report from my security guard that was working that night, he was surprised by three masked men, bearing Halloween masks, which he was held up at gunpoint and forced to sit down and don't move or else. The other two just went into the office and fortunately we suffered minimal loss. There was no cash taken due to the fact that we no longer leave any cash in our vault here at the office."
Keith Swift,
Did they say trick or treat?
Phillip Jones,
"No they did not."
Keith Swift,
On a more serious note, do you believe someone with inside information was involved?
Phillip Jones,
"The police are doing their investigation and at this point and time I cannot speculate or say anything to that effect."
Keith Swift,
Police say they left with a Playstation and a flat screen monitor.
Phillip Jones,
"Yeah. Fortunately that was all they went with. It was just a Dell computer and one of the older play stations. That is about it."
Keith Swift,
You believe they were after money?
Phillip Jones,
"Yes. They were after money because we had a box that we used to keep money in the past, which we no longer do, so there was no treat in that deposit box."
We should note that the thieves went equipped with tools to break into the iron chest where the money was kept. There was no money there because a senior manager removed the money on Sunday night. The bus company no longer uses that system to deposit money.
