She missed the bus and this afternoon that cost 26-year-old Doris Cal her life.
Police say that this afternoon Cal missed the 12:30 bus to San Jose Village from Punta Gorda Town. Her next best option was to jump on a bus to San Antonio Village.
As luck would have it, the San Antonio bus caught up with the San Jose bound bus and Cal asked the bus driver to flag down her bus. He did but in her haste, Cal jumped off the bus before it stopped moving. She stumbled and fell off the bus and hit her head on the highway. She died an hour later at the Punta Gorda Hospital.
Police are preparing a file which they'll forward to the DPP who'll decide if the bus driver will be charged. Police however say it does appear to be a tragic accident. His only apparent infraction may have been driving without the bus door closed.
