Another man gave a guilty plea in court today. He was charged with maim for blinding his ex-girlfriend in one eye but today 35-year-old businessman Winston Soberanis pleaded guilty to grievous harm and was fined $10,000.
The woman he is accused of blinding is Sheree Rudon and he allegedly caused her to lose vision in her right eye. It happened on the morning of July 1st, 2006. Rudon says she was standing in front of her home on Jasmine Street when Soberanis, who she had recently ended a 4 year long relationship with, approached her. She says he asked about her new boyfriend and when she told him they had been dating for a month, he pulled out a bottle of liquid and threw it in her face. It got into her right eye and blinded her.
$2,000 of the $10,000 fine will be paid to the court while the remaining $8,000 will be paid to Rudon as compensation. He has to pay the court fine by January 31st of 2008.
