But that robbery was only the start to what would be a violent afternoon in the city.

Just an hour after the Kim’s Shop incident, at 1:30, an armed and masked gunman slipped into the side entrance of Sunny Side Bakery on Racecourse Street.

He held up an employee who was selling bread and rode off on bicycle.

The main entrance isn’t open at 1:30 – and until it does open at around 2:30 – fresh bread is sold though the side door.

But the bakery is covered by a number of cameras and the robbery was recorded. Police are reviewing that to see if they can identify the suspect – but from what we’ve been told only his eyes were visible in the mask.

Then, just after 2:00 pm, a gunman is reported to have robbed Belize Engineering near the Customs Building in the Port area of one thousand dollars in cash.

Police have made no arrests in either armed robbery, but say they have stepped up patrols.
