One man was killed and three men came close to being killed in separate knife, machete and bottle fights this weekend in the Stann Creek District.

It started at around 6:30 on Friday evening in Middlesex Village, when 42-year-old Angel Perez got into an argument with another man who has not been identified. They were quarrelling about a woman when the man pulled out a machete and chopped Perez across the head. He was pronounced dead on arrival at the Southern Regional Hospital.

And 9 hours later – at 2 am – police say that same machete killer struck again in the same village. The second victim was 41-year-old Ervin Marroquin. He told police he was on his way home when the suspect chopped him in the left arm and chest area. Marroquin survived and is in a critical condition at the Southern Regional Hospital. Police are seeking a Honduran national for both incidents.

There were also two more violent encounters in the Stann Creek District. These two were in Pomona village. The first occurred around 10 pm on Friday. 29-year-old Leberato Sho says he and a friend were returning from drinking at a bar when an argument started. Sho says the man broke a pint bottle and stabbed him in his abdomen. Police have one suspect detained.

The second in Pomona was at 2:30 am on Saturday. 25-year-old Clemente Castillo also was returning from a bar when he saw 34-year-old Jose Abarca breaking pint bottles on the street. Castellanos says he told Abarca to stop and that’s when Abarca picked up a broken bottle and allegedly stabbed him in the chest and stomach. Castellanos is in a serious condition in the Western Regional Hospital. Abarca has been charged for attempted murder, dangerous harm, and use of deadly means of harm.
