Yesterday, Orange Walk police said that the weekend murder of Rachel Chun could be related to another which occurred a few months earlier. We went looking in our archives to find that these two murders bear many eerie similarities.
On the evening of Sunday May 13, which was Mother's Day, this half finished home in the Savannah area of Orange Walk is where police found the body of 33-year-old Ana Novelo. A post mortem showed that she had been bludgeoned to death with a large stone. This site is very close to and very similar to the half finished

house where 24-year-old Rachel Chun was found on Sunday. She was also believed to have been bludgeoned to death with this cement brick. Both are half finished concrete structures in the savannah area of orange walk - at best the two structures are about a quarter mile apart.
Those similarities have police believing that this young man, 17-year-old Krismer Espinosa may know something about it.
Sgt. Julius Cantun,
"On the tenth of May, and we have discussed with our officer, on the tenth of May we had a murder almost in the general location with the same modus operandi and we are strongly looking at this person as a suspect in relation to the first murder of Ana Novelo."
No post mortem has been performed on Rachel Chun to determine if it is this cement brick that killed her.
And while the cases are similar in some regards; in others they are not. First, Ana Novelo was not sexually assaulted, Rachel Chun was. Second, the man Chun was last seen with did not resemble the man charged for the Chun murder.
