One teenager is alive and another is dead after both tried to safely dash across the Western Highway. It all happened around three on Wednesday evening between miles sixty-three and sixty - four in the area of Central Farm. That is where thirty one year old Roquelino Casteneda, the driver of a Tacoma pickup truck, says he tried to avoid hitting the youths as he saw them attempting to cross the road. But he couldn't stop in time and knocked both down. Sixteen-year-old Tomasita de Jesus Martinez received severe head injuries and died on the spot.
The police have detained Casteneda pending the outcome of their investigation.
