Last week Erna Berthran who was stabbed by her common law husband told 7NEWS that she wished her ex Alfred Billary would get the maximum 10-year sentence. Well the 36-year-old was sentenced today and he did get that ten years, more or less. And we say more or less because while he was sentenced to a total of 12 years, because it is to run concurrently, he will be spending only eight years behind bars. That is for the use of deadly means of harm with intent to cause grievous harm against Berthran and for the grievous harm against his twelve-year-old stepson.
In sentencing Billary, Judge Troadio Gonzalez did note that while the accused had fifteen previous convictions: one for aggravated assault, one harm, five escapes, five theft, three burglary and one robbery, he would not be justified in imposing the maximum sentence because none of the previous convictions were for a violent crime.
Alfred Billary started serving his sentence last week Friday when he pleaded guilty.
