Another high profile convicted killer got a retrial today. Police Constable Burton Caliz is out of jail for his 25th birthday, but he’s not happy after the Court of Appeal ordered a retrial. Although his conviction for manslaughter and ten year sentence was quashed, PC Burton Caliz who is out on an $8,000 bail told us that he expected his conviction and sentence would have been quashed, and was looking forward to going home. But that was not the case as he will be standing trial for killing Leroy Pilgrim while on duty on San Pedro in February of 2004.
He remains on interdiction and has the charge of manslaughter hanging over his head. Caliz will continue to receive half his pay until and if he is acquitted of the charge.
